Pets are very much part of the family that when a couple splits up the pet becomes like a child to them as to who gets custody of him, what weekends etc. They can become a legal issue with the family develop into a battle and lawsuits. Most people consider their pets as a companion, provides comfort, friendship, love and protection to the family. Therefore they are more than just a house hold object as a piece of furniture they are a living, breathing part of the family as a true member. This is a story that was found about a man, who because his family dog had been run over by his neighbour he was suing the neighbour for $1.6 million The pet owner who was doing the suing claimed ‘loss of companionship’. This type of claim are becoming more and more common now with pets but is usually reserved for immediate family members, The pet owner who was suing said that the dog provided each member of the family with ’solace, affection, friendship, love and protection’, which as we all know is true about our own pets. This is how much our pets mean to us in the fact it can become a legal battle in the same way as a human being. The defendant says that dogs are by law personal property and not eligible for no economic damages for personal property. This is just the start of such a case where the pet is more than just a pet but the family member who was run over. Pets are so much part of our lives now as they travel with us, spend time relaxing, playing with us, having their medical attention as us and so forth. Pets are our home, our life and our love so yes they should be protected as one of our own child.
What is your opinion should pets become a custody case in a separation or become a victim involving suing?

Dog napping what is going on with people today. The Ottawa Sun had an article of a
lady who had tied her pet outside while she ran into the store to get some things. A few minutes later her dog was gone. She filed a report with the Humane Society and the Police and with only a description of a man, as seen by one witness, who was seen walking away with her dog was all she had to go on.
She later, after searching for hours for her dog, returned to her apartment to tell friends of the situation and as per luck while on the phone she looked out the window and saw her dog with a man who was talking on the cell phone at the time. She ran out, grabbed the lease from the man telling him it was her dog. Police were called but by then the man was gone so they could not be sure he was the one who took the dog or a good Samaritan returning the dog.
The question is are even our pets not safe tied outside an establishment while we do a few errands? This is not the first time I have heard of pets being taken not just from the street but out of backyards. The world seems to be an ever changing place of values but can we not at least have some sort of stability where everything is not stolen for a dollar value or other unlawful purpose?
Our pets are precious to us but can we trust our human contacts to at least leave our pets alone. They are more valuable to their owners than to anyone who is not familiar with them. Lets hope that some sort of decency with remain.

Getting a new pet before you have had time to work through your grief can cause problems for both you and the pet. It’s probably not best to get a new cat or dog as soon as you wiped the first bit of dust off of those pet urns.
So when is the right time? There’s no easy answer. Only you know when too soon is actually too soon. It may help to talk to your friends and family and maybe you can get a sense of when you’re ready to start anew.
I have pondered this question for quite sometime. Is it fair to our pet not to carry some insurance for them in case they do become seriously sick or need an operation? They depend on us! What do you as pet owners feel about this?
