Etymology of Dog

The word ‘dog’ comes from the Old English world ‘ducga,’ which meant powerful breed of canine.  That word may have come from the Proto-Germanic word, ‘dukkon,’ which meant finger muscle in reference to the dogs being one of the first domesticated of all animals. Today we revere our pet friends with pet urns so that we can keep the memories of the past.
